Terms of Service for The Breathwork Experience Website, Public Content & Events

I. General Terms & Scope

1. We Are Human

While every effort is made to provide accurate, timely, and complete information on this website, social media, emails, and in-person communication, all content is created and maintained by humans. Errors, typos, or outdated information may occasionally occur. The Facilitator is not responsible for unintended inaccuracies. Participants are encouraged to contact support@laurenleighhenry.com if something appears incorrect, unclear, or requires attention.

2. Purpose & Scope

These Terms of Service apply to all breathwork sessions, workshops, private events, and related offerings facilitated by Lauren Leigh Henry (“Facilitator”).

Participation in any breathwork session constitutes agreement to these terms. These terms are designed to:

  • Set expectations regarding the breathwork experience.

  • Clarify safety considerations, contraindications, and participant responsibilities.

  • Establish limits of liability for the Facilitator, assistants, and host venues.

  • Ensure a safe and respectful environment for all participants.

3. Website & Content Disclaimer

All content on this website, associated social media platforms, emails, and any distributed written or recorded material (including blog posts, audio recordings, videos, or educational guides) is provided for informational and educational purposes only.

  • Nothing provided by Lauren Leigh Henry constitutes medical advice, diagnosis, treatment, or a substitute for professional medical or psychological care.

  • The Facilitator makes no guarantees about the outcomes of using the information provided. Each individual’s experience will vary.

  • Any reliance on the information provided is done at the participant’s own discretion and risk.

  • Content may not be interpreted as creating a client-provider or patient-provider relationship.

  • Content, statements, or materials from this site, or from any related communications, may not be used in a legal or adversarial setting against the Facilitator, assisting staff, or hosting venues.

II. Medical, Liability & Safety

4. Medical & Mental Health Considerations

The style of breathwork facilitated involves deep, rapid breathing for an extended period of time (generally 30–35 minutes, known as the “active breath” portion). This differs significantly from most pranayama practices taught in yoga studios and can produce intense physical, emotional, and psychological experiences.

This practice is not appropriate for everyone. Participants should NOT engage in breathwork if they have, or suspect they may have, any of the following conditions unless they have received prior clearance from a licensed healthcare provider:

  • Medical Contraindications

  • Pregnancy (at any stage)

  • Cardiovascular disease, including prior heart attack, angina, or unmanaged high blood pressure

  • History of stroke, transient ischemic attack (TIA), or other cerebrovascular events

  • Aneurysms (including family history)

  • Epilepsy or seizure disorders

  • Asthma (unless the participant brings their prescribed inhaler and has discussed breathwork safety with a provider)

  • Recent surgery or physical injury (especially to the head, neck, spine, chest, or abdomen)

  • Severe osteoporosis

  • Detached retina or glaucoma

  • Uncontrolled diabetes or other serious metabolic disorders

Psychological & Neurological Contraindications

  • History of psychosis, schizophrenia, or bipolar disorder type I

  • Severe PTSD without established therapeutic support

  • Dissociative disorders

  • Severe anxiety or panic disorder

  • Current major depressive episode with suicidal ideation

  • Neurodivergent conditions (such as autism spectrum disorder or ADHD) if intense sensory/emotional experiences may be destabilizing without adequate support

  • History of traumatic brain injury where intense breathing may pose risk

This list is not exhaustive. If unsure whether breathwork is safe, participants should consult a licensed healthcare provider before attending.

5. Consultation with Healthcare Provider

Participants are strongly encouraged to consult their licensed healthcare provider before beginning any breathwork practice, especially if they:

  • Have a medical, psychological, or neurological condition.

  • Are currently taking prescription medications.

  • Have any concerns about the impact of breathwork on their health.

  • Participation in sessions indicates that the individual has either:

  • Received clearance from their healthcare provider, or

  • Chosen to participate voluntarily, acknowledging and accepting any associated risks.

6. Release of Liability & Assumption of Risk

By participating in any breathwork session, participants acknowledge and agree that:

  • They are voluntarily engaging in an activity that may involve physical, emotional, and psychological intensity.

  • They understand that breathwork may bring up strong sensations, emotions, or memories and that these experiences may be unpredictable.

  • They are solely responsible for their own mental, emotional, spiritual, and physical wellbeing before, during, and after the session.

  • They release and hold harmless Lauren Leigh Henry, any assisting staff, the Winston-Salem Wellness Collective, and any other venue or event partners from all claims, liabilities, or damages arising from participation.

  • They understand that panic attacks, emotional release, or resurfacing of past trauma are possible and accept these risks.

  • Participation is entirely voluntary, and participants may stop or modify their practice at any time.

7. Possible Physiological, Emotional, and Spiritual Experiences

During the active breath portion, participants may experience temporary:

  • Dizziness or lightheadedness

  • Numbness or tingling in extremities

  • Tetany (“claw hands” or muscle tightening)

  • Changes in body temperature (feeling hot or cold)

  • Visual phenomena such as colors, shapes, or images

  • Auditory phenomena (hearing sounds, tones, or voices internally)

  • Emotional release such as laughter, crying, or anger

  • Profound feelings of connection, peace, or transcendence

These experiences are generally temporary and resolve once normal breathing resumes. They are considered natural physiological and psychological responses to this type of breathwork.

8. Emotional & Trauma Considerations

Breathwork can surface unresolved emotional tension, suppressed memories, or trauma. This can be healing when supported properly, but it may also feel overwhelming.

  • Participants who do not currently have adequate emotional, mental, or spiritual support are advised to wait until a stable support system is in place before engaging in breathwork.

  • This practice is not a substitute for therapy, psychiatric treatment, or medical care.

  • Participants are encouraged to seek professional support after a session if distressing material arises.

9. Emergency Procedures

Breathwork sessions are facilitated with safety in mind. In the event of a medical emergency, the Facilitator or staff will follow standard first aid and CPR protocols and, if necessary, contact Emergency Medical Services (EMS).

  • Participants authorize the Facilitator to seek medical assistance on their behalf in the event of an emergency.

  • The Facilitator is not responsible for any medical costs, ambulance fees, or other expenses incurred due to emergency services.

  • Participants are encouraged to provide emergency contact information when registering for an event.

10. Facilitator Training & Role Disclaimer

Lauren Leigh Henry is a licensed Registered Nurse (RN) with advanced certifications in trauma and CPR. That said, she functions in the role of a trained Facilitator.

However:

  • She does not function in a medical or clinical role during sessions.

  • Breathwork sessions are not medical treatment or therapy.

  • No diagnosis, prescription, or clinical intervention is provided.

The Facilitator’s role is solely to guide the breathwork process and hold a safe space for participants. Standard safety protocols, as required by state and local laws, are followed.

III. Accessibility, Conduct & Environment

11. General Safety & Accessibility

The breathwork event may take place at a venue that is not ADA compliant or suitable to those with complex mobility or accessibility needs. Participants should consider mobility needs before attending and contact the hosting venue with any questions.

The physical space may have dim lighting, incense, candles, or music, which may affect individuals with specific sensitivities. There might also be places where the music is softer or louder than others.

When sessions are held in private homes or alternative venues, the Facilitator is not responsible for environmental safety issues such as pets, furniture, hazards, or lack of accessibility features.

12. Sound equipment & Audio Disruptions:

  • Venue-Provided Equipment: When events are held in venues that provide their own sound equipment, the Facilitator will conduct a sound check prior to the start of the session. The Facilitator is not responsible for any equipment malfunctions or sound issues arising from venue-owned systems. The Host is responsible for being present and addressing any sound issues related to venue equipment during the event.

  • Facilitator-Provided Equipment: If the Facilitator provides sound equipment and a malfunction occurs that results in the cancellation or inability to complete the event, the Facilitator will offer either (a) a refund or (b) the option to reschedule the event within a reasonable timeframe.

  • Temporary Disruptions: While every effort is made to ensure a smooth and uninterrupted audio experience, occasional short-term disruptions or interferences may occur. Brief or temporary disruptions are not grounds for event cancellation or refund. Such situations will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis at the Facilitator’s discretion.

13. Sensitivities & Allergies

Smudging practices using sage, palo santo, or other plant-based smoke may be incorporated before or after breathwork sessions. Participants with allergies, asthma, or sensitivities should notify the Facilitator in advance so that alternative methods (such as sound, essential oils, or smoke-free clearing practices) can be used.

14. Code of Conduct

Breathwork can be an intense and emotional practice. To maintain a safe, respectful, and supportive environment:

  • Participants must treat others with respect at all times, even while experiencing emotional release.

  • Movement and sound are natural during breathwork, but participants must remain close to the ground for safety. Hands and knees are acceptable, but participants should remain on or very near their own mat.

  • Hands and feet must remain to oneself. Physical contact with other participants is not permitted.

  • Participants are asked to use the restroom before or after the session. If use during the session becomes unavoidable, participants must ground themselves prior to standing or walking, as breathwork may cause dizziness, loss of balance, or lightheadedness.

  • This is a substance-free experience. Alcohol, drugs, or psychoactive substances of any kind are not permitted before or during the session. Breathwork can intensify the effects of substances and create unsafe conditions for the participant and others.

  • Suspicion or evidence of substance use is grounds for immediate dismissal from the event and possible exclusion from future events. Local authorities will be notified if deemed necessary.

15. Age Requirements

All breathwork sessions and events facilitated by Lauren Leigh Henry are intended for adults age 18 and older.

  • These events require informed consent, which minors cannot legally provide.

  • Adequate research on the safety and effects of ceremonial breathwork in children and teenagers has not been established.

  • For this reason, participants under the age of 18 will not be admitted.

16. Unsupervised Breathwork Disclaimer

This style of deep, prolonged breathwork should not be practiced alone, unsupervised, or without a trained facilitator. Doing so may pose physical, psychological, or emotional risks.

IV. Confidentiality, Privacy & Media

17. Confidentiality

To ensure a safe and respectful environment:

  • All personal sharing or disclosures that occur during breathwork sessions or integration circles are considered confidential.

  • Participants agree to honor the privacy of others by not repeating or sharing outside of the group what was expressed during the session.

  • “What happens in the circle, stays in the circle.”

18. Media, Photo, and Video Release

  • Hosts may determine whether photography or videography is permitted during their event.

  • When photos or videos are captured during breathwork sessions, participants may be asked to sign a separate Photo/Video Release Form.

  • During breathwork: Media may be captured for marketing and promotional purposes to give future participants an idea of the experience.

  • During integration/sharing: The Facilitator may occasionally record portions of the post-session integration discussion to demonstrate facilitation and coaching. While cameras will not be pointed directly at participants, voices or questions may be audible on recordings. These recordings are for educational or promotional purposes only.

  • Testimonials: Participants may be invited to provide optional video or written testimonials following the event. Participation is always voluntary.

  • Any material posted publicly will remain anonymous unless the participant has given explicit permission to be identified.

19. Technology, Email, and Communication

Participation may involve receiving emails or digital communications regarding event details, reminders, and follow-up resources. Participants are responsible for providing a valid email address and checking for event updates.

The Facilitator is not responsible for:

  • Technical failures, lost messages, or delays in email communication.

  • Participants missing important updates due to spam filters or inactive inboxes.

  • For urgent or important matters, participants should contact support@laurenleighhenry.com directly.

V. Financial & Legal

20. Payment, Deposits, and Refund Policy

  • A non-refundable deposit of 20% of the total event fee is required upon booking to secure the date and services.

  • Pricing is based on the estimated number of participants and follows a tiered pricing system. If the actual number of participants is larger than anticipated, pricing will be recalculated and adjusted to the appropriate higher tier. Downgrades from a higher tier to a lower tier are not permitted.

  • Final payment is due prior to the event date.

  • For small group events (up to 8 total participants), cancellations are permitted up to 48 hours prior to the event date. Deposits remain nonrefundable.

  • Deposits and payments already made may be transferred to another event if rebooked within 90 days of the original booking date.

  • Payments done through the website or checkout pages are processed securely through Stripe, which accepts most major credit and debit cards and, in some cases, Apple Pay and Google Pay.

  • Hosts will receive an electronic information packet outlining these Terms of Service, privacy policies, and safety rules. Hosts are responsible for ensuring that their participants are informed of all relevant safety considerations and conditions of participation.

  • The Facilitator is not responsible for last-minute cancellations, nor for participant refunds requested due to discovering breathwork is not a good fit for them.

21. Force Majeure

In the event that a session or event must be canceled or rescheduled due to circumstances beyond the Facilitator’s reasonable control (including but not limited to illness, accident, weather, natural disasters, government restrictions, or power outages), the Facilitator will make every effort to reschedule the event at a mutually agreed-upon time.

Deposits and payments will not be refunded in such cases but may be transferred to a rescheduled event within 90 days.

22. Governing Law & Jurisdiction

These Terms of Service shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the State of North Carolina. Any disputes arising under these Terms shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the state and federal courts located in North Carolina.
